Bulga tree-sit Diary  – Day32

Woke to another misty morn. It drapes over the mountains shoulder like a shawl for the chill morning air then slowly shrugs it away as the air warms.

A Golden Whistler serenaded this patch of forest today with it’s sweet trills and whistles. The Tree Creepers drop in for snacks multiple times each day hopping upwards, deftly withdrawing food with swift jabs into the scruffy bark of this immense tree. They seem to have their favourite branches time and again each day. Lyrebird at it again, mimicking it’s fellow bird life. Seems to have given up on starting it’s chainsaw. The pidgeon flock has again exploded out of its favourite tree top to wheel and soar in large circles before scattering further down the gully. Black cockatoos screech good morning then gracefully soar by while bowerbirds call for mates in the understory. A small group of finches gave the eucalypt neighbour a good clean. Can hear them but only see them when they move. Three King Parrots rocket through searching for flowers in this very green world. All this, over the constant background of other birdsong. So much winged life.

The mini-mozzie flock has mercifully moved on to find breakfast from a not net protected food supply. Solo larger ones occasionally drop in for a snack through the the day though. What looks to be dragonflies sometimes hover around the canopy. One, diligently searching the bark of this tree for sustenance, seemed to instantly teleport elsewhere when the tree creeper arrived.

Would be a travesty to destroy so much diversity.
