Bulga Logging Resumption Set to Ignite Conflict
Bulga Logging Resumption Set to Ignite Conflict
The resumption of logging in Bulga State Forest north of Taree appears to be imminent with the Forestry Corporation again closing the forest to the public. Logging was halted there in early 2023 due to sustained pressure from Save Bulga Forest.
Forestry Corporation has an aversion to transparency. They don’t consult on their logging plans and they certainly don’t want people seeing the damage being done to the heads of the catchments of the Hastings and Manning Rivers.
The logging will cause major damage and likely lead to the deaths of Koalas and Greater Gliders, both endangered and both known to be living in the area.
Victoria’s exit from native forest logging is welcome & long overdue
By the end of the year, Victoria’s trouble-plagued native forest industry will end – six years ahead of schedule. The state’s iconic mountain ash forests and endangered wildlife will at last be safe from chainsaws. And there will be no shortage of wood – there’s more than enough plantation timber to fill the gap.

Day 33, Diary from a treesitter in the Bulga State Forest
In our response to the climate emergency, we must not act from a place of panic – this only brings conflict, spurring that fearful and self interested part of our humanity. We must slow down our minds and rethink what we value as a species,
Day 32, Diary from a treesitter in the Bulga State Forest
A Golden Whistler serenaded this patch of forest today with it’s sweet trills and whistles.
Day 31, Diary from a treesitter in the Bulga State Forest
Woke up this morning to a life giving mist floating over the mountain, creeping down towards this tree. So incredibly beautiful. The birds seemed quieter and woke later as well. There’s something about a misty morn that creates calm.
